What is Female Empowerment?

Women's empowerment. A phrase that has been manipulated to define a woman's choices and sexual expression by the media, society, and people of all genders. Often times, what the individual woman decides is empowering  has been jaded, co-opted, or morphed by society's expectations of what women's empowerment should be.  The concept of female empowerment is deeply rooted into the gender ideologies of American society, a society in which women and girls are surrounded with conflicting and confusing ideas about which modes of female expression they should strive to achieve. We picked the brains of two Ithaca College professors who have extensive knowledge on the issues of gender and sexuality to see what they had to say about the female empowerment movement.
